A Thousand Splendid Suns
The main plot, set in Afghanistan from the 1960s to the 1990s, is about Taliban Control. It follows the lives of two women in their war torn country experiencing domestic abuse, and a main theme is of oppression of Afghan women. The main plot seemed to fulfill my criteria. I like that the novel is split into dual narratives. All the way through the novel Hosseini weaves in information about Afghanistan's situation. I love that it is above all a story of hope and of life.
War Horse is about a horse named Joey during World War I. He has to leave his home and his owner who he loves. It's really sad, but he keeps fighting to survive. I saw the movie, and I like the book a lot.
Anne Frank is a real person who lived in Amsterdam during WWII. She and her family, who were Jewish, had to hide from the Nazis in the back of her father's office. It's incredible how brave they were. I like the book, but I also hate it because I dread what going to happen to her. (I already know.)
This book is about Thomas Peaceful. His older brother is forced to join the British Army, and Thomas decides to sign up too, even though he is only fourteen. I really like the author, Michael Morpurgo. This is the fourth book I've read of his, and I think he is a great story teller. You always want to keep reading.
