Curriculum overview
As an international school, St. George’s ensures that all pupils are well prepared to interact with others in our multilingual and international world.
Our Family Language Planning Service allows us to work with individual families to understand the language profile of each pupil and their language ambitions.
In our Early Years and Foundation Stage 1 pupils learn in an immersive English and French environment. This enables our young pupils to rapidly develop the skills of bilingualism in a natural way.
In Foundation Stage 2 and Year 1 our pupils enjoy our Dual Language Programme. This is a co-teaching approach where two class teachers, one English-speaking and one French-speaking, share the teaching equally. The teachers work together seamlessly, planning and delivering the academic content with an emphasis on learning through language as well as giving rigorous language instruction in both English and in French.
From Year 2 until the end of Middle School in Year 9, there are two different language options. In the English option pupils are taught all subjects in English as well as learning accelerated French. In the Bilingual option students are taught classes in both English and in French.
In Senior School the IGCSE, Pre-IB and IB curricula are taught in English. We support bilingual learners in the IBDP where approximately 30% graduate with a bilingual diploma each year.
As part of our commitment to multilingualism and multilingual learners, we facilitate a comprehensive Home Language programme for any language, throughout the age range.
These language pathways have been developed to ensure we are providing for the diverse needs of our international community. Whatever the language profile or language ambitions you have for your child, St. George’s International School provides tailored and individualised pathways for all.
Studying at St. George’s International School leads to the best university opportunities in Switzerland and abroad. Our University Guidance Counsellor supports applications to all international universities.
