If you looking to apply to a boarding school in Switzerland, it is best to begin doing so 1-2 years before the desired start date. This may seem like a lot of time, but it is necessary given that many schools have a detailed application process, and families will need time to familiarise themselves with the criteria, steps and timelines for admissions. Quotas for different nationalities may fill up early in the admissions cycle.

Swiss boarding schools typically welcome students from ages 8 to 18, with many focusing on secondary education starting around age 12. At St. George's, we offer weekly and full boarding programmes to boys and girls from 10 to 18 years old.

The process may vary among Swiss boarding schools. In general, however, applicants must follow the steps below to successfully apply to a boarding school in Switzerland.

1. Research the schools available and identify the one best suited to your child’s needs, interests, aspirations, etc.
2. Familiarise yourself with the admissions process. You should begin looking for a boarding school 1-2 years before the intended start date.
3. Submit an enquiry with the school.
4. Gather the required documents, which typically include the application form, a copy of your child’s passport and academic records, personal student information, a motivation letter and proof of language proficiency.
5. Arrange a campus visit and in-person interview, or set up a video interview if you are unable to visit in person.
6. Complete the entrance assessments, if any.
7. Submit all documents and pay the application fee.
8. Await a decision. After receiving a formal offer, accept the offer and pay the deposit.
9. Non-EU/EEA students may need to apply for a student visa, which can take up to 12 weeks to process.

At our Swiss boarding school, we endeavour to make the application process as smooth and straightforward as possible. Our admissions team is dedicated to guiding families through each step, from initial enquiry to final enrolment, and is happy to address any questions or concerns.
